“…A number of authors have pointed out that lack of supportive resources (e.g., collegial clinical supervision, managerial support) in nursing increases the level of stress and burnout (Cutcliffe & Burns, 1998;Edwards, Burnard, Coyle, Fothergill, & Hannigan, 2000;Melchior, Bours, Schmitz, & Wittich, 1997). Clinical supervision that includes attention to the emotional needs of the supervisee has been linked with increasing the quality of patient care and job satisfaction by decreasing ethical distress and burnout in mental health nurses (Cameron, 1997;Cutcliffe & Epling, 1997;Robertson, Gilloran, Mckee, Mckinley, & Wight, 1995).
