Purpose of review Artificial intelligence has reached the clinical nutrition field. To perform personalized medicine, numerous tools can be used. In this review, we describe how the physician can utilize the growing healthcare databases to develop deep learning and machine learning algorithms, thus helping to improve screening, assessment, prediction of clinical events and outcomes related to clinical nutrition. Recent findings Artificial intelligence can be applied to all the fields of clinical nutrition. Improving screening tools, identifying malnourished cancer patients or obesity using large databases has been achieved. In intensive care, machine learning has been able to predict enteral feeding intolerance, diarrhea, or refeeding hypophosphatemia. The outcome of patients with cancer can also be improved. Microbiota and metabolomics profiles are better integrated with the clinical condition using machine learning. However, ethical considerations and limitations of the use of artificial intelligence should be considered. Summary Artificial intelligence is here to support the decision-making process of health professionals. Knowing not only its limitations but also its power will allow precision medicine in clinical nutrition as well as in the rest of the medical practice.

Research ethics provides appropriate guidelines for conducting research. Additionally, it ensures that scientists doing research adhere to high ethical standards set by the institutional ethics committee by educating and monitoring them. It is crucial that all research initiatives strictly adhere to ethical principles. Ethics is the set of rules that determine how someone should behave while conducting an activity. Professional organizations set the standards to be followed during research to avoid any harm to the trial subjects. It is the responsibility of the ethics committee to closely monitor the progress of research until the study is completed. If the researcher does not follow the guidelines, he can be reprimanded by the ethics committee, and they can also recommend other suitable remedial measures including stopping of the study. While conducting research, all ethical principles should be taken into consideration. This review discusses the fundamental ethical principles mentioned in the Belmont report i.e., autonomy, beneficence, justice and equality. It briefly covers research misconducts like fabrication, falsification of data, plagiarism and publication ethics.

Ethical considerations in doing research are essential to producing reliable results from scientific studies. The Belmont Report, the ethical standards of psychologists, the Declaration of Helsinki from the World Medical Association, and the Common Rule are only a few of the foundational documents that are discussed in this presentation. The difficulties of doing research in accordance with ethical norms are also addressed, as is the need of constant introspection and review. There is also discussion of ethical research practices and maintaining a high standard of research integrity in this study. Understanding the significance of research ethics and learning how to do research in a responsible and ethical way are the primary goals of this work, which should be used as a resource for researchers and scientists.
