Social, economic and political developments in the globalising world have necessitated a re-examination of the concept of democracy. The concept of organisational democracy is a process that expresses the inclusion of individuals in the management processes of organisations and allows freedom of expression in organisations. In this study, it is aimed to reveal at which stage the concept of organisational democracy is included in the international literature. In this context, it is desired to evaluate the development stages of the concept in terms of literature and to set an example for future studies by filling the gaps in the literature. In line with the main purpose, 99 publications related to the concept of “organisational democracy” between 1990 and 2023 in the Scopus database were analysed using R Studio and VOSviewer softwares. The analyses were evaluated by considering the studies conducted in the fields of “Social Sciences”, “Business, Management and Accounting” between 1990 and 2023. The concept of organisational democracy is often associated with concepts such as participation, hierarchy, employee participation organizational culture, organizational commitment and communication. As a result, it has been determined that organisational democracy plays a role in the satisfaction of internal stakeholders.

There is importance in revealing the factors that affect happiness at the workplace, which provides important benefits both to employees and organizations. The current study aimed at determining the effects that ethical leadership and employee voice have on happiness at the workplace. In addition, it was also aimed at revealing the mediating role of employee voice in the effect of ethical leadership on happiness at the workplace. The study was performed in İstanbul between November 1st, 2022, and October 6th, 2023, and the data were obtained from employees working at private hospitals in this province. In the study, the data were obtained from 302 employees. According to results of the study, ethical leadership positively affects employee voice. Ethical leadership and employee voice positively affect happiness at the workplace. In addition, employee voice has a mediating role in the effect of ethical leadership on happiness at the workplace. The study conclusions show that happiness at the workplace is affected by ethical leadership and employee voice. According to these conclusions, some suggestions were made to increase the perception of ethical leadership, employee voice and happiness at the workplace.

Perceived Organizational Democracy and Associated Factors: A Focused Systematic Review Based on Studies in Turkey

This review study provides an opportunity to look at the level of organizational democracy (OD) that a large sample of private- and public-sector employees in an emerging market (Turkey) perceive. The focused systematic review includes empirical studies examining employees' level of OD and associated work and organizational psychological variables, using the Organizational Democracy Scale (ODS) in Turkey. This paper includes studies published between January 2014 and April 2021 in the Google Academic, Dergipark, and Ulakbim databases and on the Turkish National Thesis Center website. From a total of 1,778 records, 37 empirical studies meeting the inclusion criteria were included (with a total of N = 10,370 employees). Of these studies, 67.6% are published articles and manuscripts, 24% are unpublished dissertations, and 43.2% of the studies took place in the public sector. The results suggest that the level of employees' perceived OD was slightly above the medium level (mean: 3.30 ± 81), and the scores of the private-sector employees are higher than those of the public employees. Further, empirical associations between OD and 21 different outcome variables are reported and discussed. To varying extents, significant positive correlations were found between the level of employees' perceived OD and positive organizational variables, such as organizational citizenship behavior, organizational commitment, psychological capital, and job satisfaction. On the other hand, negative significant relationships occurred between OD and negatively evaluated organizational variables, such as job stress and organizational depression. The results of this study support the importance of organizational democracy as a management approach.
