“…The understanding of the decorations as a whole should however not hinder the in-depth study of the inscriptions and the analysis of the shape of the letters that compose them. For a number of historiographical reasons, the palaeographic study of inscriptions has been mostly considered from the perspective of the inscriptions engraved in stone-epigraphic characters are by default the Roman capitals incised in stone (gray 1948;Deschamps 1929;DeBiais, Favreau, treFFort 2007). The shapes of painted letters, like those of the inscriptions embossed on metal, or those made of tiles in mosaic, are little known, especially regarding the gestures of the artists and the graphic resources mobilized.…”
