European Robotics Week to introduce robotics and promote engineering

Abstract: We present an activity framed within the European Robotics Week event. Robotics and computational practice are ideal tools for developing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) pedagogy. A modular and adaptive hands‐on workshop is described in detail. The workshop is based on multiplatform educational robotics content as a first step into the robotics world. Three educational tools are used to introduce examples of robotics applications. The operational details, materials, and examples of act… Show more

“…Reverse engineering methodology emphasizes the understanding and representation of a current product [6], such as the sculptures of Michelangelo or the models of airplanes, tanks, and other military equipment in World War II [21]. If the design is a process from function to modality, then reverse engineering is the process from modality to function [32].…”

“…So, more and more countries are focusing on integrating STEM into Κ-12 education [22,61]. Research has shown that engaging in robotics can increase the learning outcome in specific STEM areas [8,42,44,45,51] even outside the narrow school boundaries [7,44,45,66] and also encourage behaviors, such as problem-solving collaboration and critical and creative thinking [5,32,43,52].…”

“…When combined with CT methodology, DBL has recently been shown to empower the impact of the former [17][18][19], despite being less frequently adopted in general [20]. Similarly, educational robotics (ER) with its deep roots in problem-solving [21][22][23][24], collaborative learning, and engineering mindset cultivation [25][26][27] has also been universally acknowledged to favor and advance CT skills development [28][29][30][31][32][33][34].…”
