Evaluating channel partner’s performance: impact of task environments on the relevance of measurement metrics

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop a nuanced framework for evaluating a channel partner’s performance in distribution channel relationships. Given a channel partner’s task environment characteristics (high/low munificence, dynamism and complexity), the study examines which performance metrics (output, activity or capability) are most relevant for evaluating its performance levels effectively. Design/methodology/approach The study adopts self-administered cross-sectional survey-based research des… Show more

“…Brown and Crosno (2019) show that both process control and output control are related positively to performance and satisfaction. For these reasons, effective evaluation of the operations of the business partner has become increasingly critical (Goyal and Mishra, 2019). One problem with such ambitions is that the more successful the single actor is to control these attempts – the less dynamic the network will become, as the degrees of freedom for the business partner may become severely constrained (Håkansson et al , 2009).…”

“…We also carried out a detailed industry analysis for different types of product buying (Robinson et al , 1967) with the help of industry experts from the oil and gas industry across India and several other countries. A complete description of the model used in this analysis will be explored in detail in a separate manuscript focused entirely on model development (Authors, 2019). The present analysis applies this model to uncover insights regarding PP in the oil and gas industry sector to provide relevant managerial implications for this and related B2B contexts.…”

“…It will be a problem if the work handled is different from the ability possessed (Tee, 2016). Previous research concludes the importance of calibrating performance evaluation metrics into the appropriate task environment paths (Goyal & Mishra, 2019).…”
