The clustering evaluation can be used to scientifically classify the objects to be evaluated according to the information aggregation of various evaluation rules. In grey weighted clustering evaluation, the index clustering rule relies on the construction of the whitenization weight function, while the existing construction method of the linear function lacks the construction mechanism analysis and validity explanation. A normative construction principle is put forward by analyzing the construction mechanism of the function. Through proving the normative principle of the function, the basic modal function (BMF) is proposed and characterized by different function forms. Then, a new type of the whitenization weight function and its grey clustering evaluation model algorithm are given by studying the mechanism and nature of the construction of different forms of the function. Finally, the comparative study for self-innovation capability of defense science and technology industry (DSTI) is taken as an example. The results show that the different construction ways of the function have an effect on the clustering result. The proposed construction mechanism can better explain the index clustering rules and evaluation effectiveness, which will perfect the theoretical system of grey clustering evaluation and be applied to practice effectively.

This paper studies the optimal prices and quality of new and remanufactured products, and especially discusses the quality adjustment of the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in a new market segment that consists of the indifferent segment and the new product only segment. Consumers in the first segment have the same willingness to pay for new and remanufactured products, while consumers in the second segment are only willing to purchase new products. We use the proportion of consumers in the indifferent segment accounting for all consumers to segment the market. We present game models and employ backward induction to derive the optimal prices and quality in three scenarios: the monopolist OEM no‐remanufacturing, the monopolist OEM remanufacturing, and an OEM no‐remanufacturing but an independent remanufacturer (IR) remanufacturing. When the OEM or the IR remanufactures, we find that the OEM cannot lower the product quality. In addition, we compare the optimal quality between the unsegmented and segmented market for each scenario. The results show the OEM should increase its product quality under certain conditions after the OEM realizes that there is a segmented market. Furthermore, we conduct numerical analyses to discuss the impact of related parameters on practitioners’ profits, which provides more guidelines for practitioners.

Exponential increase of used and scrapped products has aroused worldwide attention, with various coping strategies regarding environmental protection and resource reutilization being considered and implemented. Among these, remanufacturing, processing used products environmentally and restoring them to like-new conditions, is preferred by nations around the world. China has been committed to developing and advancing the remanufacturing industry along with its products since 2013, however only a few residents are able to recognize and purchase remanufactured products at the present time. This paper aims to investigate the public awareness of Chinese residents on these emerging products by conducting a questionnaire survey and field research for data collection, and analyzing the results statistically. Results show that most Chinese residents are not familiar with remanufactured products, the superior attributes of such products, or the channels available to purchase them. This could be explained by insufficient publicity and promotion on the part of the government and business enterprises. Factors influencing the purchase intentions of customers are illuminated and potential problems are summarized, in response to which, respective recommendations are provided for both policy makers and firms to popularize remanufactured products.
