Evaluation of accuracy of shade selection using two spectrophotometer systems: Vita Easyshade and Degudent Shadepilot

Abstract: Objective:The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the accuracy of shade matching using two spectrophotometric devices.Materials and Methods:Thirteen patients who require a full coverage restoration for one of their maxillary central incisors were selected while the adjacent central incisor was intact. 3 same frameworks were constructed for each tooth using computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing technology. Shade matching was performed using Vita Easyshade spectrophotometer, Shadepilot sp… Show more

“…Also, the results of studies by Zenthofer et al [22], who compared the effectiveness of colour measurement with the Easyshade Advance and Easyshade Compact spectrophotometers, confirm the occurrence of discrepancies between the devices, and the existence of statistically significant difference in the accuracy of both devices (p = 0.001). The above observations are not confirmed by the results obtained by the Kalantari research group [23], who compared the Easyshade with the Shadepilot spectrophotometers and did not find statistically significant differences between the results. Tsiliagkou et al [24], who compared the measurements obtained by three spectrophotometers (Easyshade, Spectroshade, and Shadevision) with regard to the Vita Classical and Vita 3D-Master shade guides (five colours from each colour palette), obtained similar results in their studies.…”

“…According to Liberato et al 20 , the use of equipment for color measurement is a more accurate, reproducible and reliable method than human visual assessment. Furthermore, the Easy Shade® spectrophotometer has been used to improve the color reproduction of ceramic restorations in clinical practice and in the dental laboratory 21 .…”
