Evaluation of asthma knowledge and quality of life in Hungarian asthmatics

Abstract: The results indicate that asthmatics experience lower QoL. As the subjects were regularly controlled asthmatics they had better general knowledge and inhaler-use technique was expected. The results suggest that it is necessary to regularly refresh asthma knowledge, to assess patients' self-management plans to achieve long-term effectiveness of asthma management.

“…The results of the present study showed that conducting the self-care educational program in a 2-month follow-up period increased the asthma patients' knowledge of selfcare. This is consistent with the findings of the study by Meszaros et al which revealed education to increase the asthma patients' level of knowledge (19). In the same line, the study by Yang et al showed that education on asthma could significantly improve the adult asthma patients' knowledge as well as life quality (20).…”

“…To measure the quality of life it is necessary to quantify a patient's own perception of their state [2,3]. Previous examinations [4][5][6][7][8][9][10] assess the primary effect of age and disease severity on the quality of life. Several studies tried to determine the factors that might influence the quality of life [11][12][13][14][15][16].…”
