Breast cancer (BC) is a significant threat to female health, with both modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors. It is essential to monitor patients regularly and to raise population awareness. Increasing research also suggests that E-selectin (SELE) may increase tumor angiogenesis and the development of cancer. This study investigated SELE single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the following positions: rs5367T/C, rs5368C/T, rs5362T/G, and rs5362T/C. Using polymerase chain reaction, significant differences in allele and genotype frequencies were found between BC patients and controls. Position rs5368 was associated with an increased risk of BC for the CT and TT genotypes, with odds ratios (ORs) of 16.3 and 6.90 (Fisher probability=0.0001, p = 0.05). Women with the T allele had a 19.3-fold higher incidence of BC, while allele C may be a protective allele against BC (OR, 0.05). Heterozygous genotypes at rs5367, rs5362, and rs5362 were significantly more common in BC patients, with ORs of 5.70, 4.50, and 3.80, respectively. These SNPs may be associated with the risk of BC, because the frequency of mutant alleles was significantly higher in patients (OR: 4.26, 3.83, and 4.30, respectively) than in controls (OR: 0.23, 0.30, and 0.20, respectively). These SNPs may be considered a common genotype in the Iraqi population, with the wild-type allele having a protective fraction and the mutant allele having an environmental fraction. The results also revealed a 2-fold increase in gene expression in BC patients compared to controls, with a significant effect (p = 0.02). This study's findings confirm the importance of SELE polymorphisms in cancer risk prediction.

The cytotoxic impact of biosynthetic zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) was investigated using Vitex agnus-castus, which has been shown to have Effective compounds that suppress cancer cell proliferation. Zinc oxide nanoparticles were biosynthesized in the laboratories of the Biology department /College of Education for the Pure Sciences /University of Diyala. The phenotypic and structural characteristics of biosynthetic nanoparticles were identified using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The majority of ZnONPs are dense and spherical in shape, with diameters ranging from (20-61) nm, and were discovered on the cervical cancer cell line Hela and compared to the normal line Human Foreskin Fibroblast cells (HFF) using the MTT stain test (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium ). Cytotoxicity experiments were conducted at the Iraqi Center for Cancer Research / Al-Mustansiriya University. This study showed inhibitory activity on Hela cervical cancer cells, where the highest inhibition rate reached 93.6% at a concentration of 200 µg/ml. This raises the prospect of finding a viable therapy for cervical cancer (Hela) or any other malignancy using nanoparticle manufacturing technologies. Infertility is recognized as one of the leading reproductive health problems in various regions of the world. In vitro fertilization (IVF) is one of the most effective treatments for infertility. In the current research, the role of the selectin -L (SELL) gene, especially the rs2229569 polymorphism, has been determined in terms of implantation and expression level. This work involved 67 females who underwent an in vitro fertilization cycle, divided into two major groups: the implantation failure female group and the implantation success female group. Blood samples were collected from the females. After DNA extraction from blood sample then amplification by polymerase chain reaction, samples were sent for sequence analyses. The SNP rs2229569 was detected and that recorded three genotypes. The failure group had a deviation from H.W.E., and the success group was in agreement with H.W.E. law according to Chi square values (X2 = 11.60, 1.58). Significant differences in the failure group refers to the effects of infertility in the study population. Odds ratio of rs2229569 showed that the T allele was (2.09), so T allele may be considered a risk allele for the failure implantation. Finally, the SELL gene expression had a downregulation in female with failed implantation compared to female in successful implantation groups.
