Evaluation of Effective Condyle Positioning Assisted by 3D Surgical Guide in Mandibular Reconstruction Using Osteocutaneous Free Flap

Abstract: In the present study, the reproducibility and postoperative stability of a 3D printed surgical guide were evaluated in mandibular reconstruction with an osteocutaneous free flap (OCFF), including a fibular free flap (FFF) and deep circumflex iliac artery free flap (DCIA). Fifteen patients were enrolled, and a 3D surgical guide was fabricated by simulation surgery using preoperative (T0) Computed tomography (CT) images. Mandibular reconstruction was performed with OCFF using the 3D surgical guide. Postoperative… Show more

“…The research results showed that the digital design plan could be precisely be duplicated into the operation process through the 3D-printed PLA guide plate. The operation time of the mandibular reconstruction was significantly shortened, the intraoperative blood loss was reduced, and postoperative perforation, numbness, pain or looseness of the mandible were not observed, which is similar to the results of relevant studies (24). Ischemic time is considered to be an important factor affecting the survival rate of the fibular grafts, but computer-aided modeling or computeraided machining (CAD/CAM) technology has obvious advantages over traditional surgical methods.…”

“…FDM-based additional manufacturing is widespread in medicine and frequently utilized in the production of models that aid in clinical diagnoses and preoperative planning [ 20 , 21 , 22 , 48 ]. FDM enables the design and production of bone scaffolds and implants, and takes part in drug development research [ 24 , 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 , 49 ].…”

“…Computed tomography images were imported and confirmed on the 3D modeling software platform in the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) file format (AVIEW Modeler 1.0; Coreline Soft Incorporation, Seoul, Republic of Korea) (18)(19)(20). The blood volume of the target LA was segmented to create a sculpture and holes were filled to make a 3D model in Standardized Tessellation Language (STL) file format.…”
