Evaluation of health-seeking behaviour among older people during the COVID-19 pandemic in Bali and Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic poses the highest risk to older people with comorbidities, as the rapid spread of the virus reduces the community's access to formal healthcare facilities. This leads to the search for medical alternatives from several informal health sources. “…Indonesia's economic losses due to dementia reached USD 2.2 billion in 2015 and are predicted to become a burden on the country's economy in the future 3 . One of the factors that trigger the high cost of caring for dementia is the lack of knowledge or understanding of caregivers and health workers regarding this disease 4 , which hinders early detection and accelerates the increase in the number of people that suffer from dementia (Suriastini, 2023).
