“…Also, C-glycosylflavones from Allophylus edulis Radlk (Sapindaceae) showed a remarkable in vitro hepatoprotective activity (Hoffmann-Bohm et al, 1992). Isoorientin was responsible for the in vivo hepatoprotective activity of Gentiana olivieri Griseb (Gentianaceae) (Deliorman et al, 2003). The results of present study are in concordance with these findings.…”

“…It was also claimed that vitamin E may possibly be beneficial in preventing type-I diabetes by stopping the oxidative damage on pancreas (Knekt et al, 1999). The potent inhibitory effect of isoorientin on lipid peroxidation was shown previously (Deliorman Orhan et al, 2003). Accordingly, the hypoglycaemic effect of isoorientin might be least partially through its potent above-mentioned antioxidant activity.…”

“…The activity was assessed by monitoring some biochemical parameters of plasma and/or hepatic tissue i.e. malondialdehyde (MDA) formation, aspartate transferase and alanine transferase enzyme levels, and cellular glutathione level as well as histopathologically (Deliorman Orhan et al, 2003). Through bioassay-guided fractionation procedures isoorientin was isolated from the EtOAc extract as the active antihepatotoxic and antioxidant component.…”

“…They showed that the compound caused concentration-dependent inhibition of the amplitude and frequency of the phasic contractions of the rat and guinea-pig uterus but did not affect the isolated aorta, ileum or trachea. Deliorman-Orhan et al (2003) tested the hepatoprotective activity of Gentiana olivieri and conclude that the effect "might possibly [be] due to the potent antioxidant activity of isoorientin". The antioxidant effect of plants used in diabetes treatment was shown by Letitia et al, 2002. According to these authors, the benefits of antioxidants in the prevention of the complications of diabetes supports and validates the use of the traditional medicine.…”
