Evaluation of performance monitoring ERPs through difficulty manipulation in a response-feedback paradigm

Abstract: HAL is a multidisciplinary open access archive for the deposit and dissemination of scientific research documents, whether they are published or not. The documents may come from teaching and research institutions in France or abroad, or from public or private research centers. L'archive ouverte pluridisciplinaire HAL, est destinée au dépôt et à la diffusion de documents scientifiques de niveau recherche, publiés ou non, émanant des établissements d'enseignement et de recherche français ou étrangers, des labora… Show more

“…We were able to show that a larger N2 component would be elicited when the participant encountered something that was contrary to expectation of the solution construct. The results related to the N2 component are consistent with literature (Cohen et al, 2007; Potts, 2011; Gheza et al, 2018; Krigolson, 2018; Yi et al, 2018; Somon et al, 2019; Tunison et al, 2019). However, when we compared the calculated mean amplitudes to existent literature as shown in Table 3, the calculated amplitudes were smaller.…”

“…User feedback gives individuals the opportunity to modify their future actions using information received about their previous behaviors. The most studied ERP component related to feedback response is feedback-related negativity (FRN) (Walsh and Anderson, 2012; Warren and Holroyd, 2012; Gheza et al, 2018; Glazer et al, 2018; Krigolson, 2018; Somon et al, 2019). The FRN is a signal that is said to originate in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) by multiple converging studies (Walsh and Anderson, 2012; Warren and Holroyd, 2012; Gheza et al, 2018; Glazer et al, 2018).…”

“…Hence, EEG data with suitable signal processing techniques can provide relative information regarding brain FC elicited during cognitive activities [15-18]. However, EEG suffers from low spatial resolution issue due to volume conduction [19,20]. Same underlying source may influence the EEG signals acquired from two neighbourhood sensors [21].…”

“…The similarities of negative peak, positive peak, and latency with the existing ERP waveform were compared. If the waveforms have completely different waveforms or if the difference between the values of sampling elements and classical ERP elements are two times or more different from each other, the waveforms are discarded and the similar type of ERP waveforms are derived as much as possible through epoch sampling repetition(Zhu et al, 2017;Somon et al, 2019). First, for the analysis of ERN, EEGs were extracted for 0.8 second within 0.3 seconds and 0.5 seconds before and after each checkpoint.…”
