Evaluation of Pressed Powders and Thin Section Standards for Multi-Elemental Analysis by Conventional and Micro-Pixe Analysis

Abstract: For muti-elemental analysis, various standards are used to quantify the elements consists of environmental and biological samples. In this paper two different configuration standards, pressed powders and thin section standards, were assessed for their purpose as standards by conventional and micro-PIXE analysis. Homogeneity of manganese, iron, zinc ( Zn ), copper and yttrium added to pressed powder standard materials were validated and the relative standard deviation (RSD) of the X-ray intensity of the standar… Show more

“…Uranium in areas of the S3 segments with and without concentrated phosphorus were quantified by μ-PIXE spot analysis using the μ-PIXE system with a CdTe detector [23]. Briefly, X-ray intensity data of the U Lβ2 were obtained by scanned 1 μm × 1 μm areas of the specimens under conditions of proton energy of 3.0 MeV and integrated current of 0.2 μC with 1 μm × 1 μm spatial resolution.…”

“…Cellular imaging of uranium and endogenous elements was performed using a Model OM-2000 microbeam scanning PIXE system (Oxford Microbeams Ltd., Oxford, UK) with a Si (Li) detector for light elements and a CdTe detector for uranium [27]. Elemental images were constructed using the intensity data of the P Kα, S Kα, Cl Kα, K Kα, and U Lβ1 lines at each point, which were obtained by scanning the specimens under the following conditions: proton energy, 3.0 MeV, integrated charge, 0.2 μC, and spatial resolution, 1 μm × 1 μm.…”

“…The uranium concentration range was calculated using thin-section standards. [285][286][287] The periphery of the renal cortex is shown on the upper side. Uranium was localized to the inner cortex and the outer stripes of the outer medulla, where TUNEL-positive tubules were also observed.…”
