“…It was observed that 0.03% to 0.28% (w/w) SRE was not phytotoxic to vegetable seeds including cucumber seeds (Table 3). These findings support accumulating evidence that SRE and similar cyclic lipononapeptides are not phytotoxic (Bull et al 1997(Bull et al , 1998Williamson et al 2008;Mendes et al 2011;Pauwelyn et al 2013) despite their historic portrayal as phytotoxins (Gross and DeVay 1977;Iacobellis et al 1992). The syringomycins were originally described as antibiotic compounds against fungi and yeasts (Sinden et al 1971).…”

“…The result showed the effect of 2,4-di- tert -butylphenol on F. oxysporum occurred during spore germination, and it completely inhibited the germination of spores by preventing the emergence of a normal germ tube and led to abnormal branching and swelling of hyphae occurring after 72 h of incubation at 26 ± 2 °C. This compound has also been found in plant extracts or plant essential oils with antibacterial or antioxidant activities , because phenols had been described as antioxidants, growth regulators, or flavors . Recently, an antifungal compound 2,4-di- tert -butylphenol isolated from Flavobacterium johsoniae strain GSE09 showed biocontrol activity against Phytophthora capsici in peppers .…”

“…The flourishing research in banana postharvest is mainly due to the fact that banana fruits are a good candidate for biological control. However, controlling crown rot on banana is challenging because of the complex of fungi associated with the disease and the cut crown tissue allows for a large area of entry for pathogens (Williamson et al 2008). Moreover, once the antagonistic activity has been established, it is essential to perform tests under natural conditions of infestation to assess the real protection afforded by the biocontrol strategy (Lassois et al 2008).…”

“…Similarly, the use of microbials and microbial extract to control banana anthracnose also gained attention. Such as is the case of yeasts (Chuang and Yang 1993), bacterial antagonists and actinomycetes (Postmaster et al 1997;De Costa and Erabadupitiya 2005;Lassois et al 2008;Williamson et al 2008;Fu et al 2010;Peeran et al 2014).…”
