Evaluation of Serum Vascular Adhesion Protein-1 as a Potential Biomarker in Thyroid Cancer

Abstract: Vascular adhesion protein-1 (VAP-1) is a glycoprotein that mediates tissue-selective lymphocyte adhesion. The prognostic value of VAP-1 has been determined in gastric cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate the changes and the predictive value of serum VAP-1 in patients with thyroid cancer. A total of 126 patients with thyroid nodules and 53 healthy controls participated in this study. The patients were further divided into subgroup 1 (69 cases with benign thyroid nodules) and subgroup 2 (57 cases with t… Show more

“…The optimal cutoff value of VAP-1 for diagnosis of thyroid cancer was 456.6ng/mL, with a specificity of 77.4% and a sensitivity of 66.7%. 58 Meanwhile, Baki’s research in 2019 also confirmed its value as a potential marker. 59…”

“…Hu et al (28) find that serum VAP-1 levels are significantly lower in thyroid cancer group than in healthy control and benign thyroid nodule groups. Another important finding of their study is that serum VAP-1 has relatively high sensitivity and specificity in predicting thyroid cancer.…”

“…A relationship with malignancy was found if the level of midline pleotropic growth factor used to distinguish benign and malignant nodu les was higher than 323.12 pg/mL, its sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic accuracy rates of 75.70, 75.00, and 75.31 %, respectively [21]. In another study performed with vascular adhesion protein-1 (VAP-1), the cutoff was found to be 456.6 ng/mL and it was found that the VAP-1 level was lower in patients with thyroid cancer than in healthy individuals without benign nodules with a specificity of 77.4 % and a sensitivity of 66.7 % respectively [22].…”

“…In colon cancer and in breast cancer WISP1 is upregulated in CAFs more than in fibroblasts at the adjacent normal tissue [36,37]. In many cancers WISP1 is accumulated in the tumor stroma which around the cancer cells [22,[36][37][38][39]. In an experimental animal study, it has been shown that serum and tissue WISP1 levels are high in the early stages of prostate cancer, and the severity of the disease increases with the decrease in tissue and serum WISP1 levels.…”
