According to the extent of damage, various effects and complexity of desertification process, selecting appropriate alternatives considering all effective desertification criterions is one of the main concerns of Iran in the field of natural resources. This can be effective in controlling, reclamation of disturbed lands and avoiding destruction areas at desertification risk. This paper tries to provide a systematic and optimal alternatives in a group decision-making model. For this aim, PROMETHEE II method was used for ranking desertification alternatives. At the first in the framework of Multiple Attribute Decision-making (MADM), normalized decision matrix was provided by Delphi model. Then, to ease and accuracy in estimating the criteria preference and alternatives priority, the normalized decision matrix data were entered in Visual PROMETHEE software. Based on the results, the alternatives of prevention of unsuitable land use changes (A18), vegetation cover development and reclamation (A23) and modification of ground water harvesting (A31) with pure out ranking progress of =0.3660, 0.1909 and -0.0887 were selected as the main combating desertification altarnative in the study area, respectively. Therefore, it is suggested that the obtained results and ranking should be considered in projects of controlling and reducing the effects of desertification and rehabilitatyion of degraded lands plans.

This paper discusses a multi-period service scheduling problem. In this problem, a set of customers is given who periodically require service over a finite time horizon. To satisfy the service demands, a set of operators is given, each with a fixed capacity in terms of the number of customers an operator can serve per period. The task is to determine for each customer the periods in which he will be visited by an operator such that the periodic service requests of the customers are adhered to and the total number of operators used over the time horizon is minimal. Two alternative policies for scheduling customer visits are considered. In the first one, a customer is visited just on time, i.e., in the period where he or she has a demand for service. The second policy allows service visits ahead of time. The rationale behind this policy is that allowing irregular visits may reduce the overall number of operators needed throughout the time horizon. To solve the problem, integer linear programming formulations are proposed for both policies and numerical experiments are presented that show the reduction in the number of operators used when visits ahead of time are allowed. As only small instances can be solved optimally, a heuristic algorithm is introduced in order to obtain good quality solutions and shorter computing times.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

A multi-criteria decision aid methodology to design electric vehicles public charging networks

This article presents a new multi-criteria decision aid methodology, dynamic-PROMETHEE, here used to design electric vehicle charging networks. In applying this methodology to a Portuguese city, results suggest that it is effective in designing electric vehicle charging networks, generating time and policy based scenarios, considering offer and demand and the city’s urban structure. Dynamic-PROMETHE adds to the already known PROMETHEE’s characteristics other useful features, such as decision memory over time, versatility and adaptability. The case study, used here to present the dynamic-PROMETHEE, served as inspiration and base to create this new methodology. It can be used to model different problems and scenarios that may present similar requirement characteristics.
