Evaluation of SrAl2O4:Eu, Dy phosphor for potential applications in thermoluminescent dosimetry

Abstract: To evaluate the use of commercial-grade strontium aluminate phosphorescent powder as a thermoluminescent (TL) dosimeter for clinical radiotherapy beams.Materials and Method: Commercially available Eu 2+ , Dy 3+ co-doped strontium aluminate powder (SrAl 2 O 4 :Eu, Dy) was annealed and then irradiated using

“…Aluminates are being considered for their potential application in LEDs and dosimeters due to their exceptional thermal and chemical stability, long afterglow, high quantum efficiency, and tunable emission properties [18][19][20]. These materials also have applications in various fields, including lamps [21], TLDs [22,23], scintillators [24,25], field emission, and plasma display panels [26].…”

“…RESA has been employed in a variety of commodities, such as switches, safety marks, luminous ornamental articles, decorations, and directional signs. This can be attributed to its photostability, durability, and long-persistent luminescence. There are a variety of known rare-earth doped phosphors with the ability to emit the different primary colors, such as Y 2 O 2 S:Eu 3+ , Mg 2+ , Ti 4+ and CaS:Eu 2+ , Tm 3+ , Ce 3+ for red emissions, MgAl 2 O 4 :Mn 2+ and SrAl 2 O 4 : Eu 2+ , Dy 3+ for green emissions, and CaMgSi 2 O 6 :Eu 2+ , Dy 3+ and CaAl 2 O 4 :Eu 2+ , Nd 3+ for blue emissions . However, it proved to be one of the best long-lasting phosphors due to its distinctive brightness, nontoxicity, non-radioactivity, thermal and photostability, long-persistence time (>10 h), recyclability, and resistance to chemicals.…”
