Evaluation of Teacher Candidates’ Perceptions about Specific Learning Difficulties through Online Photovoice (OPV) Method

Abstract: In this study, the researchers (i) determined the perception levels of candidate teachers about Specific Learning Difficulties (SLD) using Online Photovoice (OPV) methodology, (ii) shared the research results with relevant researchers and practitioners in order to contribute to increase the knowledge level of candidate teachers about SLD, and finally (iii) discussed the results of the research in order to lay the groundwork for more meaningful and useful research and services. OPV technique was used in the dat… Show more

“…OPV also allows researchers to understand difficult and/or rarely examined issues. Many other researchers recently used OPV in different topics (Doyumğaç et al, 2021;Genc et al, 2021;Öğülmüş et al, 2021;Subasi et al, 2021;Tanhan, 2020;Tanhan & Strack, 2020;Tanhan et al, 2021aTanhan et al, , 2021bTümkaya et al, 2021).…”

“…Quantitative scales itself can be a limitation in exploring uncharteed territories; researchers can use emerging qualtiative methods such as Online Photovoice (OPV; Armiya'u et al, 2020;Doyumğaç et al, 2021;Genc et al, 2022;Tanhan, 2020;Tümkaya et al, 2021) to conduct qualitative or mixed method studies to understand academic procrastination and other related concepts from the perspective of highschool students rather than just relying on quantitavie scales. These researchers can collaborate with the students and others interested in these subjects for more effective research and services as many researchers called for such initiatives (e.g., Dari & Gay, 2022;Hauber-Özer et al, 2022;Öğülmüş et al, 2021).…”

“…Additionally, future researchers can strive to, though difficult, standardize the use of counseling approaches. Researchers can use Online Photovoice (OPV; Doyumğaç et al, 2021;Öğülmüş et al, 2021;Tanhan, 2020;Tanhan & Strack, 2020;Tümkaya et al, 2021), a quite recent and innovative qualitative method, to examine the effect of such interventions from the participants' unique perspective. Researchers used OPV to understand different topics including US Muslims' mental health (Tanhan & Strack, 2020), online or distance education during the recent COVID-19 pandemic (Doyumğaç et al, 2021;Tümkaya et al, 2021), mental health during COVID-19 (Tanhan, 2020), and specific learning disorder (Öğülmüş et al, 2021).…”
