Evaluation of the anticorrosive performance of epoxy coatings containing new core/shell pigments

Abstract: Purpose Core-shell is structured particles having several chemical compositions. The advantage of these particles arise from their specific design, to be used in decreasing costs by using inexpensive material (natural ore or waste material) as carrier for thin shell of active material. This study aims to prepare ferrites/silica core-shell pigments and compare their inhibition efficiency to original ferrites. These pigments have shells of different ferrites that comprise 10-15 per cent of the prepared pigments … Show more

“…However, the lamellar ferrites showed, in general, better corrosion protection efficiency than the core-shell ferrites, double-cation ferrite pigments with the composition Mg 02 Zn 08 Fe 2 O 4of both the lamellar and core-shell typewere most effective against corrosion (Figure 5). Ahmed et al (2018) undertook a study of the ability of shell ferritic pigments with silicon dioxide core, constituting 85-90% of their total mass, to suppress the process of steel corrosion. As a result, they made a statement of the anticorrosive effectiveness of the shell and traditional (100%) ferrites' parity and the undoubted economic feasibility of pigments with low content of expensive active principle practical use if only because of the fact that the core is the ferro-silicon industry waste.…”
