Evaluation of the Conditions of Mamberamo River Water with Biomass and Phytoplankton Community Approach

Abstract: HighlightThe highest composition was Bacillariophyceae class and lowest was Cyanophyceae.Phytoplankton community abundance in waters is tightly related with nutrient content such as phosphate, nitrate, silicate, and other nutrients.Relation between abundance, biomass, and nutrients in Mamberamo river had the same pattern throughout February, May, and August in 2016.High biomass in an area related positively with phytoplankton abundance in its area.AbstractMemberamo River in Papua Province, that is a place of l… Show more

“…Eutrophic zones occurred in December (DEC) in Rokan Estuary ( Fig. 8 ); this is in line with previous studies that noted the moderate growth of Chl-a in Rokan Estuary (mesotrophic in general) [ 59 , 60 , 61 ]. Tidal mixing and inundation might cause high concentrations of Chl-a in estuaries, resulting in the release of interstitial nutrient-containing anoxic water (i.e., dissolved inorganic nutrients) [ 62 ].…”

“…Cyprinid was known as fast and freeswimming fish and usually preferred areas with rocky and flowing waters (Maharudin et al, 2021), adaptable to swim against the current (Dwirastina and Atminarso, 2021). This condition was conformable with the middle part of Klawing River.…”

“…Phytoplankton, which cannot move freely, is certainly greatly helped by the presence of flowing water. Apart from the incoming water, of course, the current speed is also very important in the distribution of this phytoplankton, especially in freshwater (16). According to (17), nutrient content in water is tightly connected to phytoplankton abundance, with increased nutrients in water resulting in greater phytoplankton abundance and chlorophyll-a concentration.…”
