Evaluation of the Passivation Effects of PEDOT:PSS on Inverted Perovskite Solar Cells

Abstract: Poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) is a popular hole transport material in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, the devices with PEDOT:PSS exhibit large open‐circuit voltage (Voc) loss and low efficiency, which is attributed to mismatched energy level alignment and the poor interface of PEDOT:PSS and perovskite. Here, three polymer analogues to polyaniline (PANI), PANI–carbazole (P1), PANI–phenoxazine (P2), and PANI–phenothiazine (P3) are designed with different energy leve… Show more

“…The hysteresis effects can be characterized using the hysteresis index (HI) as the reference. 39 As listed in Table S3, the HI significantly decreases from 0.107 for Reference-PSC to 0.036 for PI-PSC and 0.061 for PZ-PSC, confirming that PI-PSC has the smallest HI. It is well-known that a smaller HI means more efficient charge transport and less ion migration, 40 which can contribute to the best PV performance of PI-PSC.…”

“…Figure a shows the PL spectra of Reference-, PI-, and PZ-films. Obviously, the PI- and PZ-films exhibit a higher PL intensity, and the PI-film exhibits the highest PL intensity, indicating that the introduction of PI can remarkably suppress nonradiative recombination and effectively passivate trap states . Meanwhile, the peak of the PI-film exhibits a slight blue shift compared with that of the Reference-film.…”

“…Compared to the control PEDOT:PSS, the Ti 3 C 2 T x @PEDOT:PSS (1 wt.%) film exhibits higher slope values, which means the modified film has smaller contact resistance and higher hole mobility values. [ 21 ] From the Raman spectroscopy in Figure 4b, pristine PEDOT:PSS exhibited a prominent peak at 1433 cm −1 corresponding to C α = C β symmetrical stretching vibration of the five‐membered thiophene rings on PEDOT. After the introduction of Ti 3 C 2 T x , this peak was red‐shifted.…”

“…An increase in grain size leads to decreased grain boundaries, enhanced crystallinity, and charge transport, which alleviates the undesirable charge recombination. [39] Furthermore, the film with the modification of Al 2 O 3 has larger surface roughness, as shown in Figure S14a-d The increased roughness will enlarge the crystal grains and reduce the voids in-between perovskite grains, which decreases the surface recombination centers, thereby suppressing the non-radiative recombination at the interface. On the other hand, the hole carries can transport through the space between Al 2 O 3 nanoparticle which is infilled by perovskite.…”
