Evaluation of the Slip Sinkage and its Effect on the Compaction Resistance of an Off-Road Tracked Vehicle

Abstract: When an off-road tracked vehicle travels, shearing action and ground sinkage occur on the soil–track interface, severely affecting the tractive performance of the vehicle. Notably, ground sinkage, which is induced by the vehicle’s weight (static sinkage) and longitudinal forces in the direction of travel producing slip (slip sinkage), develops motion resistance, directly restricting the tracked vehicle’s performance. Thus, it is critical to consider both static sinkage and slip sinkage to assess the tractive p… Show more

“…So it can be approximated that the wheel-track subsidence are static. 29 The soil-stress relationship satisfies the Bekker model, 30 terramechanics analysis of wheels and tracks in the soil is shown as Figure 2.Where s donates the radial reaction force of the soil, F d is the net tractive force of the vehicle and W donates the vertical load. When the vehicles are statically sinking, according to Bekker's pressuresinking theory, the formula of radial reaction force and wheel-track subsidence is:…”

“…Based on the orthogonal test results, eliminating non-significant factors (p > 0.05), experimental data were analyzed and fitted with the quadratic polynomials that were obtained using the regression model. Equation (7) showed the regression models of the adhesion force, and Equation ( 8) represented adhesive soil mass regression response surface models. To ensure the adaptability and accuracy of the model, it was necessary to evaluate the predictive ability by analyzing the determination coefficient.…”

“…After the rainy season, the moisture content often exceeds 20% which is close to rheological properties, therefore, the adhesion performance is very prominent [3,4]. Because of the strong adhesion, the phenomenon of soil adhesion frequently occurs between the soil and the grouser shoes of tracked vehicles, which significantly increases the energy consumption and the working resistance and has greatly affected the production efficiency [5][6][7].…”
