Evaluation of Toxicity of Phenolic Compounds Using Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae) and Artemia salina

Abstract: Nowadays, dengue fever, a mosquito-borne tropical disease, has become widely distributed in Brazil. In order to prevent such disease, the population of Aedes aegypti mosquito has to be controlled. Then, the aim of this study is to assess the toxicological effects of phenolic compounds against dengue mosquitos. Hence, the larvicidal activity and toxicity of phenolic compounds against Ae. aegypti larvae and A. salina, are evaluated, respectively. The phenolic compounds 2,6-diiodophenol and 4-chloro-2,6-diiodophe… Show more

“…Phenolic compounds adjust the various metabolic functions such as growth, structure, pigmentation, and are resistant to diverse pathogens in plants (Naumovski 2015). Catelan et al (2015) stated the phenolic compounds have significant differences in toxicity and mortality and mortality for 3 rd instar larvae of Ae. aegypti.…”

“…Phenolic compounds widely scattered in ethanol extract have substantial allelopathic applications in agriculture and forestry as herbicides, insecticides and fungicides (Zhao et al, 2010;Bhawan and Nagar, 2016). The second major compound is Furoscrobiculin-B, a lactarane sesquiterpenes compound possesses antifeedant activity (Ogino et al, 1994;Catelan et al, 2015).…”
