Evaluation of Vegetable Type Cowpea Varieties for Commercial Production in the River Basin and Low Hill Areas

Abstract: Five vegetable type cowpea varieties were evaluated in farmer's field with farmers participationat Chambas, Tanahu (450 masl) in two consecutive years 2003 and 2004 rainy season to identifysuitable vegetable type cowpea varieties for commercial production in the river basin and lowhill areas of western region. The experiment was arranged in randomized complete block design(RCBD) with 5 replications, farmer as replication. Prakash variety used as the check was earliestin flowering and days to first harvest from… Show more

“…Pod characteristic is of major importance for fresh consumption or grain cowpea cultivation, and substantial strategies for consumer-oriented cowpea breeding, also individual selection criteria for seed multiplication by the farmers. Some desirable traits including pod color, tender and less fibrous pods are the most prominent characters that attract the growers' interest and market quality (EHLERS et al, 2002;PEKSEN, 2004;PANDEY et al, 2006). For entire collection, pods were mainly straight (68.8%), and few genotypes (25%) showed slightly curved pods, and remarkable differences in pod length (11.97-34.50 cm).…”

“…Além disso, o comerciante prefere genótipos que sejam fáceis de debulhar e que apresentem boa conservação pós-colheita (ROCHA et al, 2006). A produtividade de vagens e grãos frescos têm sido as características mais estudadas para esse sistema de produção (OLIVEIRA et al, 2001;OLIVEIRA et al, 2003;PANDEY et al, 2006;ROCHA et al, 2007;SANTOS et al, 2007).…”

“…İncelenen genotipler arasında agronomik özellikler yönünden görülen yüksek varyabilite, diğer araştırıcılar tarafından yerel börülce genotipleri arasındaki yüksek agro-morfolojik varyasyon ile benzerlik göstermektedir (Ehlers ve ark., 2002;Pekşen and Artık 2004;Pandey et al, 2006). Diğer yandan farklı coğrafik alanlardan toplanan börülce genotipleri arasında bitki büyüme şekli bakımından görülen varyasyonun moleküler markerlar ile belirlenmiş (Saxena and Tomar Rukam, 2020), ayrıca değişik agro-klimatik koşullarda yetiştirilen genotipler arasındaki genetik varyasyonun moleküler markerlar ile ortaya konulmuştur (Ghalmi et al, 2010).…”
