Evaluation plan of a network of remote labs in the Maghrebian countries

Abstract: The need for adopting virtual and remote labs in engineering education is high in Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia. This paper proposes the evaluation plan of a network of remote labs in the Maghrebian countries. This plan is based on the significant research that has been done until now concerning the evaluation of remote labs. More specifically the proposed evaluation strategy of the project will focus on five different but interrelated directions (a) usability of remote labs; (b) learners' attitude towards remo… Show more

“…Although there are several analysis which have boarded the usability of remote labs in university frameworks, (Tsiatsos et al 2014), (Gadzhanov and Nafalski 2010), none of them has explored the dimensions underlying to the variable of usability and its relation with the usefulness perceived by the students. The identification and strengthening of those factors in the design of practical classes with remote labs, will allow the improvement of acceptation/adoption of this technology by educative community, (Barrios et al 2013), (Gampe et al 2014), (Lowe 2013), (Balamuralithara and Woods 2009), (Ormann et al 2013).…”

“…For example, it has been utilized to evaluate technologies in the health care domain (e.g. evaluation of rehabilitation equipment for patients with stroke [9], robotics applied to rehabilitation [10], personal health records [11,12], prevention applications [13][14][15], tools to support diagnostic [16] or informal caregivers empowerment [17]), applications to browse the contents of maps [18] or videos [19], social networking sites [20], elearning environments [21,22], tools to support engineering work [23], virtual reality [15], remote labs management [24] or visualization of ontologies [25].…”

“…Within pedagogical framework, there are several papers in the Literature which have treated the analysis of usability of remote laboratories in University, (Casini et al 2014), (Kulkarni and Jhunjhunwala 2013), (Tsiatsos et al 2014). However, none of them have explored the dimensions underlying to the usability variable and its relation to the perception of usefulness by students.…”
