“…Research indicates that MBCT may attenuate these symptoms. MBCT has been shown to reduce overgeneral autobiographical memory (55, 69, 70), improve attention deployment and maintenance during sad mood (71) and reduce attentional-bias towards negative emotional stimuli (72), although such attentional improvements are not ubiquitous (42, 48, 73). MBCT has additionally been shown to augment suppression of currently-irrelevant mental sets (74) and promote both cognitive flexibility and overall cognitive functioning (75), benefits which correlate with a reduction in depressive symptomology.…”

“…In an earlier study, Jha et al [18] also observed that MBSR improved the ability to orient attention, and direct and focus attention to relevant inputs. A recent study by Bostanov et al [21] demonstrated that mindful attention is associated with increased amplitude of an EEG evoked response potential to a neutral auditory test stimulus; the heightened late contingent negative variation response observed in subjects trained in mindfulness compared to control subjects was considered to be reflective of mobilization of attentional resources, whereas diminished late contingent negative variation amplitude is observed during inattention to a task.…”

“…Bostanov and colleagues conducted an RCT comparing a waitlist control to those receiving MBCT. Their results revealed that MBCT patients had developed an improved ability to withdraw their attention from thinking (doing mode) and redeploy it to mindful perception (being mode), offering favourable support to both MBCT and ICS (Bostanov et al, 2012). We would strongly endorse further brain function investigations of MBCT and other psychological therapies.…”
