Evidence for Excitatory and Inhibitory Amino Acids Participation in the Neuropharmacological Activity of Alpha- and Beta-Amyrin Acetate

Abstract: Abstract:We evaluated the neuropharmacological profile of acetylated alpha-and beta-amyrin (AcAMY) obtained by the acetylation of the isomeric mixture of alpha-and beta-amyrin isolated from Protium heptaphyllum. Male Swiss mice were administered with AcAMY (2.5, 5, 10 and 25 mg/kg, i.p.), and anticonvulsant (pentylenetrazole-and pilocarpine-induced convulsions), sedative (barbiturate-induced sleep and open field tests) and anxiolytic (elevated plus maze test) activities were studied. Results showed that AcAMY … Show more

“…Both α-amyrin acetate and β-amyrin acetate were also reported to exhibit sedative, anxiolytic and anti-convulsant properties. 39 Very few studies have been made on the cytotoxic properties of 3a. The dichloromethane extract of Ficus o dorata (Blanco) Merr., containing α-amyrin acetate, 1-sitosteryl-3-β-glucopyranoside-6'-O-palmitate, squalene, lutein, lupeol acetate, and β-carotene, exhibited anti-proliferative activities against the human cancer cells, lung adenocarcinoma epithelial (A549), stomach adenocarcinoma (AGS), prostate (PC3), and colon adenocarcinoma (HT29).…”
