Evidence for widespread Wolbachia infection in isopod crustaceans: molecular identification and host feminization

Abstract: Wolbachia are maternally inherited, intracellular, alpha proteobacteria that infect a wide range of arthropods. They cause three kinds of reproductive alterations in their hosts: cytoplasmic incompatibility, parthenogenesis and feminization.
