“…There are no previous studies that define why the highest rates of suicides in Colombia are located in the Coffee Region, but the epidemiologic data show us that the central region (that comprises the departments of Risaralda, Quindio, Caldas, and Valle del Cauca) hast the second highest rates of suicide with 2,6% on general population only behind Bogota [ 27 ]. We suggest that this is by the prevalence of bipolar disorder in the region because is almost twice as common in the department of Caldas (included in this study), having a prevalence of 0,22% meanwhile the prevalence in Colombia is about 0,1% [ 27 , 28 ] and this diagnosis is one of the most related to suicide cases [ 29 ], There have been studies on the COVID-19 pandemic impact on the suicidal trend worldwide; In Japan they reported a decrease in the cases during the first wave of infections, but subsequently shows an increase during the second wave [ 30 ]; this decline in behavior during the first wave have been similar in countries like Norway [ 31 ] or Germany [ 32 ]; a study made in France found a decrease in hospital admissions for suicidal behaviors in adolescents and children in 50% [ 33 ]. On the other hand, countries like Greece [ 34 ], Massachusetts (USA) [ 35 ], and China outside Wuhan [ 36 ] didn't change.…”
