Evolution of an obstetrics and gynecology interprofessional simulation-based education session for medical and nursing students

Abstract: Simulation and Objective Structured Clinical Examination assessment of learners can teach clinical skills proficiency in a safe environment without risk to patients. Interprofessional simulation-based education (IPSE) contributes to a transformation in students’ understanding of teamwork and professional roles. “…Preclinical medical students in the USA also benefited from simulations with student comfort in IUD counseling and placement increasing significantly after 90‐min session on the topic 8 . Knowledge gains appear to wane over time, as indicated by follow‐up questionnaires 4 and 8 months after an IUD simulation session at one US medical school 27 . Educators have also found simulation exercises beneficial for students.…”

“…Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) nursing is a compulsory and core course for nursing students. Its teaching content is abstract, difficult to understand, professional and technical, emphasizing the combination of theoretical knowledge and clinical practice [ 3 ]. Teaching environment and teaching plan are the main factors affecting effective teaching of obstetrics and gynecology nursing, and are the effective means to achieve teaching objectives and the key to improve teaching quality [ 4 ].…”
