Evolution of Structure, Microstructure, Electrical and Magnetic Properties of Nickel Oxide (NiO) with Transition Metal ion Doping

Abstract: We present a brief review on the evolution of structure, microstructure, electrical and magnetic properties of NiO with transition metal (TM) doping. The fcc structure of NiO is not affected with TM doping whereas the some of the TM ion influences the microstructure. The antiferromagnetic property of NiO is strongly modified with some of the TM (Fe, Mn, V) doping and the same is not much affected with some other TM (Co, Cr, Zn and Cu) doping. Not only the dopants but also the form of the material decides the m… Show more

“…Nickel oxide is a direct conductive oxide and p-sort semiconducting material [1]. Since various uses of NiO, for instance, invention of sensors [2], impulses [3], unfriendly to ferromagnetic material [4], electrochromic devices [5]; it attracts the masters' thought towards it. A few techniques for getting ready the Nickel oxide thin films relied upon the applications, substance and physical, for example, sputtering [6] and pulsed laser deposition [7].…”

“…Meanwhile, NiO x shows high transparency with a band gap from 3.5 to 4.0 eV and excellent chemical stability [10]. The p-type conducting behavior can be achieved by creating nickel vacancies in the crystallites and can be tuned in a wide range through treatment or doping [10] [11]. NiO x films has been reported to be grown using various methods [10][11][12][13][14].…”

“…Different groups of elements used as dopant and/or codopant often redefine and modify material properties of chemically compatible solid matrices. Tuning of band gap in materials for application in solar cells, inducing extrinsic conductivity in semiconductors, evolution of critical temperature TC in superconductivity or colossal magneto resistivity [1], and enhancement in luminescence properties of lanthanide doped materials [2] are few examples. Amongst various elements used as dopant and/or codopant, transition metal (TM) elements offer specific advantage.…”
