Excitation of low‐profile equilateral‐triangular dielectric resonator antenna using a conducting conformal strip

Abstract: A new configuration that employs a conducting conformal strip to excite the low-profile equilaterial-triangular dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) of eery high permittivity is proposed. As compared with Contract grant sponsor : Strategic Research Grant, City University of Hong Kong Contract grant number : Project 9000928 MICROWAVE AND OF the previous aperture-coupling configuration, the new configuration has a wider impedance bandwidth (-5.5%) and a higher front-to-back radiation ratio. The return loss, radiat… Show more

“…Close form expressions for far-field radiation patterns of the fundamental TM z 101 mode are given here using 'equivalence principle' [9] for both models (PMC and IPMC). Theoretical results on resonant frequencies and far-field radiation patterns are compared with experimental data as found in the published literature [3][4][5][6][7][8] to show the accuracy of our theory for different dimensions and relative permittivity of ETDRA. One prototype is also fabricated for further experimental verification.…”

“…1, conventional source-free ETDRA having side length a, height d and relative permittivity ɛ r on a metallic ground plane is shown. Literature survey shows that some experimental works have been reported on the performance of thin ETDRA for fundamental TM z 101 mode [3][4][5][6][7]. Several feeding mechanisms such as aperture on the ground plane [3], slot line [4], conformal strip [5], rectangular waveguide aperture [6], disk loaded coaxial aperture [7] etc., had also been utilised by Leung et al to excite the ETDRA.…”

“…In addition to this, the perturbation in the structure also helps to improve the bandwidth by reducing the Q‐factor. The proposed antenna offer an impedance bandwidth of 60% which is more than the earlier reported work based on the triangular DRAs …”

“…The proposed antenna offer an impedance bandwidth of 60% which is more than the earlier reported work based on the triangular DRAs. [16][17][18][19][20][21] The multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology has emerged as a new paradigm for modern wireless communication systems and is used in most of the wireless standards. The use of multiple radiators at both the transmitting and receiving ends in MIMO systems improves the link reliability and enhances the channel capacity without additional power requirement.…”
