Abstract: The dispersion relation of the half-cyclotron waves excited by the interaction of the two counterstreaming electron-positron-plasma beams is obtained. Furthermore, obtaining the growth rate and the threshold for the instability development, the excitation of the half-cyclotron waves in a system of two rotating monoenergetic electron-positron counterstreaming beams flowing parallel to the external magnetic field is investigated.

The possibility of the excitation of extraordinary and ordinary cyclotron waves by interaction of a rotating electron beam propagating parallel to the external magnetic field with a cold plasma medium is investigated. By obtaining the growth rates, the influence of dissipation on the development of extraordinary and ordinary cyclotron waves are studied. By comparing the development of the cyclotron instability with the dissipative instability in extraordinary and ordinary cyclotron waves excitation in the beam-plasma system, the dependency of the growth rates of these instabilities on the physical parameters is discussed.

Numerical analysis of electrostatic ion cyclotron instability in an electron-positron-ion plasma

This paper presents a theoretical study of the effects of positron density on the electrostatic ion cyclotron instability in an electron-positron-ion plasma using the kinetic theory approach. It is supposed that positrons and electrons can drift parallel to the magnetic field either in the same or the opposite directions. The dispersion relation for the electrostatic ion cyclotron waves in an electron-positron-ion plasma is derived, and the numerical results are investigated. It is found that an increase in positron concentration increases the critical drift velocity for excitation of the instability in both configurations. It is also found that as the positron concentration increases the growth rate of instability decreases. In addition, it is shown that at low velocities the maximum instability growth rate for the unidirectional case is higher than the counter-streaming case; however, after a certain velocity, the maximum growth rate in the counter-streaming case dominates that of the unidirectional case.

Thermal effects on longitudinal waves instabilities in rotating beam-plasma interaction

The thermal effects of charged particles on longitudinal wave instabilities in the interaction of a relativistic rotating electron beam with a magnetized plasma are studied using the standard linearized Vlasov theory. The dispersion relations of longitudinal waves are obtained in two different frequency limits, i.e., when the wave frequency is either much lower or much higher than the electron gyro-frequency. Considering these dispersion relations and finding the growth rates of the instabilities, it is found that for the smaller wave frequency, the instability is not limited to a specific temperature range and the growth rate increases with the beam velocity, while for the larger wave frequency, not only the instability occurs in a specific temperature range, but also the growth rate decreases with the relativistic beam velocity contrary to nonrelativistic beam velocities.
