Excitonic thermoreflectance of CdS

Abstract: Thermoreflectance spectra of high-resistive CdS single crystals were measured in the region 108 to 320 "K. The main features of the spectra can be explained on the basis of simple models derived from existing theories. The genesis of the spectra shows that the excitonic transitions determine the thermoreflectance structure even at room temperature. B o 6 n a c~~ 108

“…There have been many reports on the optical properties and constants of w-CdS studied using various techniques, such as absorption, 6-9 reflectivity, 8,10-15 photoluminescence, 16 refractive-index measurement, [17][18][19][20] and spectroellipsometry. 20 Some modulation techniques, such as ER, 21,22 TR, [23][24][25] wavelength-modulated reflectance, 26 and PzR, 27,28 have also been employed to investigate the CP structures in w-CdS. However, there has been no data on the PR spectra of w-CdS.…”

“…The samples were high-resistive platelets grown by the Frerichs method. The experimental set-up and the modulation method were described elsewhere (3). The frequency of the heating impulses was 1.8 Hz.…”
