Expanded DEMATEL for Determining Cause and Effect Group in Bidirectional Relations

Abstract: Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) methodology has been proposed to solve complex and intertwined problem groups in many situations such as developing the capabilities, complex group decision making, security problems, marketing approaches, global managers, and control systems. DEMATEL is able to realize casual relationships by dividing important issues into cause and effect group as well as making it possible to visualize the casual relationships of subcriteria and systems in the course… Show more

“…Next, we chose the articles which had used the DEMATEL technique or its extensions to solve real-world problems, and 346 academic papers fell under the scope of this review after title, abstract, and full-text screening. Since this study focuses on both the DEMATEL and its applications, those studies which only modify the DEMATEL technique without applying to actual settings have been eliminated (for the interested readers, please refer, e.g., to [4][5][6]). Finally, the resulting papers were reviewed thoroughly to identify the focus, method, application, and combination with other methods.…”

Then, the individual direct-influence matrix = [ ] × provided by the th expert can be formed, where all principal diagonal elements are equal to zero and represents the judgment of decision maker on the degree to which factor affects factor .…”

“…DEMATEL method is one of the popular technique that can visualize the relationship of effect and cause group in digraph by establishing the worthy and important of factors and sub-factors [27]. The basic steps are:…”

“…Step 3 Calculate the total relation matrix T. D m is the power of the normalized initial direct-relation matrix D which is identified as a m-indirect effect and can be used to demonstrate the effect of length m or the effect propagated after m -1 intermediates [38]. A continuous reduction of the indirect effects of problems besides the powers of matrix D, like an engrossing Markov chain matrix, guarantees convergent solutions to the matrix inversion.…”
