Experimental and numerical study of the influence of loading direction on the lubrication and cooling of self-circulating oil bearing system applied in internal gear pumps

Abstract: For middle-pressure and high pressure gear pumps, the temperature failure problem of bearings is now of considerable concern due to their heavy loads. A self-circulating oil bearing system has been developed for gear pumps in this paper to solve this problem. A test rig has been designed and built to carry out a series of tests for variable loading directions and rotational speeds. An experimental investigation and numerical model development to predict the behaviour of the self-circulating bearing subjected t… Show more

“…Similar to the previous study, 23 a sensitivity analysis has been done on the oil film force as a function of the number of divisions in the circumferential ( θ ), radial (r) and axial (z) directions with different journal offsets. Results are given in Table 2 with respect to the situation with highest density mesh.…”

“…Vane pumps are advantageous owing to features such as small overall dimensions, compact structure, uniform flow, stable operation, low noise, and long service life. They have various applications, such as in machine tools, metallurgy, and injection molding machines [1][2][3][4][5]. There are three friction pairs in a vane pump: the sliding friction of the rotor on the valve plate surface, that of the vane sliding in the radial direction in the vane slot of rotor, and that of the vane top scraping the stator's inner surface in the circumferential direction [6][7][8][9][10].…”

“…The water film lubrication performance was investigated, and the effects of sinusoidal waves micro-shapes were also studied. The gear pump and journal bearings were also regarded as a system in the research by Mo et al, 30,31 where they proposed the thermohydrodynamic analysis to investigate the lubrication and cooling performance of the self-circulating system. The studies indicated that the increase in the axial clearance leads to a larger leakage and a smaller temperature.…”
