Experimental and quantum chemical studies on corrosion inhibition performance of fluconazole in hydrochloric acid solution

Abstract: The corrosion inhibition effect of fluconazole (FLU) was investigated on steel in 1 M hydrochloric acid solution. Weight loss measurements and atomic force microscope analysis were utilized to investigate the corrosion inhibition properties and film formation behaviour of FLU. Quantum chemical approach was also used to calculate some electronic properties of the molecule in neutral and protonated form in order to find any correlation between the inhibition effect and molecular structure of FLU molecule. The re… Show more

“…values can be related to the electrostatic interaction between the inhibitor molecules and the metal surface. The higher values of the dipole moment reveal that protonated molecule contributes physisorption process compared to that of the neutral molecule (Malekmohammadi Nouri and Attar 2015).…”

“…Therefore, inhibitors share its electron to vacant d-orbital of a metal surface. This adsorption mechanism can be considered as chemical, physical, or both type of adsorption [49][50][51]. (2) Electrostatic interaction between metal and inhibitor molecules in which both metal and inhibitor are charged.…”

“…Mostly, green organic corrosion inhibitors are more eco-friendly than inorganic inhibitors [8]. Some researchers have considered the use of drugs as corrosion inhibitors for steel in different acids [9][10][11] because of their environmental friendly nature which gives them advantage over the use of inorganic and some organic inhibitors.…”
