Experimental Characterization of the Structural Deformation of Type IV Pressure Vessels Subjected to Internal Pressure

Abstract: The investigations deal with the experimental characterization of the structural deformation of type IV pressure vessels subjected to internal pressure. For the widespread use of hydrogen technology in transport industries, the development of cost-effective storage systems is a crucial step. State of the art in the field of hydrogen storage are type IV pressure vessels, which consist of a polymeric liner and an enforcing winding of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP). For the development of material-optimiz… Show more

“…When only the orders of the stacking sequence are different, the burst pressure varied greatly, 129.1MPa and 148.5MPa, respectively. 28 Besides, the lay-up sequence with separated hoop and helical layers can improve the stress-strain behavior, increase the burst pressure, and reduce the porosity of composite overwrap, resulting in the improved carbon fiber strength. 67 M. Nebe et al found that some stacking sequences led the unsafe burst mode, leading a significant decrease in burst pressure.…”

“…From the perspective of test purpose, there are two kinds of failure tests for composite shell of CHPHSV: characteristic analysis test 27 and key factor influence test. 28 Objects of failure tests of composite shell can be classified into composite laminate 29 and CHPHSV. 30 Conditions of failure tests can be classified into burst test, 27,30 fatigue test, 31 impact test, 32 fire test, 33 and so on.…”
