Experimental investigation and thermodynamic description of the Mg–Y–Zr system

Abstract: The Mg-Y-Zr system was studied via experimental investigation and thermodynamic modeling. Four diffusion couples and four key alloys of the Mg-Y-Zr system at 500°C were prepared. The phase relations of the Mg-Y-Zr system were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and electron probe microanalysis. No ternary compound was found at 500°C. The solubility of (aZr) in the Mg-Y intermetallics, i.e., Mg 24 Y 5 , Mg 2 Y and MgY, was determined to be negligible. The differential scann… Show more

“…Atoms interact via embedded atom method (EAM) potentials in all three cases: Grochola et al 36 for Au, Zhou et al 37 for NiCoFeTi, and Cheng et al 38 for CuZr. The potential by Zhou et al 37 was recently used by Rao et al 39 The non-affine part of the displacement in the bulk for each atom i at strain ε is obtained We now regard two limits of this process: In limit A, these steps occur at random positions on the surface.…”

“…More importantly, considering the intrinsic loss of precious metals and the strong resonance features, their absorption intensity or bandwidth will be weakened in many cases. It is an excellent direction for BMAs to be composed of dielectric or all‐dielectric materials, [ 326,600–602 ] which will obviously avoid the problem of intrinsic loss of precious metals materials, effectively decrease construction costs, expand absorption bandwidth, reduce unnecessary environmental pollution, and be friendly to the environment.…”

“…The theoretical prediction of existence of icosahedral atomic arrangements in monoatomic liquids has been a driving force to investigate the atomic structures of monoatomic liquids [3,5,8,14]. Since the pentagonal-bipyramid structure is a fraction of an icosahedral structure, the Li and O sublattices could have icosahedral structures.…”

“…Exploring universal features hidden behind disordered materials has been a challenge of materials science. The random packing of spheres, which is characterized by the existence of plenty of pentagonal-bipyramid structures, is one of the most successful models to describe the atomic structure of disordered materials such as liquid metals, metallic glasses, rare-gas glasses, and colloid glasses [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8].…”
