Experimental investigation of dynamic behavior of rotor system with a novel double layers flexible support tilting pad bearing

Abstract: Among all kinds of journal bearings, the tilting pad bearing has the characteristics of high stability. In order to further reduce the vibration and improve the stability of rotor-bearing systems, a novel double layers flexible support tilting pad bearing (DL-FSTPB) is presented in this paper. The bearing utilizes two layers of springs, which have different functions. The offset springs control the swing angle of the tilting pad to ensure the formation of a convergent oil film, and the symmetrical springs are … Show more

“…Bearing performance is improved by optimizing bearing structural parameters such as tile wrap angle [10] , aspect ratio [11] , bearing clearance [12] , pivot position [13] and pivot flexibility [14][15] [16] . Over the years, a large number of theoretical and experimental studies have provided an important assessment basis for the design and reliability application of tilting pad bearings, forming a common knowledge support [8] [9] . Although the helicoidal tile bearings have a more perfect analysis method in theory, the bearings are not obvious enough in the low-speed operation stage such as start-stop of the unit or panning, due to the dynamic pressure effect, the boundary lubrication between the tiles and the shaft exists, and the friction heat generation may lead to the local melting of the surface of the tiles, so it is necessary to further improve the lubrication model of the bearings at low speeds, and to get the performance of the bearings under the actual operating conditions of the unit.…”

“…Chen et al 1 established the lubrication model of tilting pad thrust bearing considering verticality error, and analyzed the minimum film thickness, maximum temperature rise and axial stiffness of tilting pad thrust bearing. Huang et al 2 proposed a new type of double-layer flexible support tilting pad bearing, which adjusted the angle of the tilting pad by controlling the bias spring to ensure the formation of the lubricating oil film. Dongil and Alan 3 studied the influence of different type's pivots of tilting pad journal bearings on the vibration degree and instability speed range of Morton effect.…”
