Experimental Studies of an Asymmetric Multi-Bolted Connection under Monotonic Loads

Abstract: This article describes the experimental studies of a preloaded asymmetric multi-bolted connection in the exploitation state. The construction of two stands were introduced: for bolt calibration and for evaluating the bolt forces in a multi-bolted connection. The bolts were tightened in a specific optimal sequence, in three passes, monitoring the force values in the bolts using a calibrated strain gauge measuring system. The studies were conducted for the selected multi-bolted connection on an Instron 8850 test… Show more

“…The established numerical finite element model of the selected bolted connection made it possible to provide some assessments about the drop of the bearing capacity of the damaged connection system owing to the loss of one or two of fasteners. The paper is concerned with the bolted connection of plates with a ground contact surface, the experimental studies of which have been described in [29][30]. The scope of the paper covers two connection stages: preload and operation.…”

“…The technological heredity phenomenon analysis allows us to increase the technological process reliability. This is especially important in the case of complex mechanisms with multi-bolted connection [ 11 ]. Thanks to such analysis, it is possible to understand how individual stages of the production process affect the condition of the examined object resulting from, e.g., machining operations.…”

“…An important feature is that some composite materials are more resistant to fatigue loads during take-off or landing, which results in fewer checks during the operation of the aircraft (Barcikowski et al, 2021). The same expectation applies to all connections: steel and composite (Grzejda et al, 2021). In the aviation industry, the most popular are fibre composites reinforced with glass, carbon or aramid fibres in an epoxy resin matrix.…”
