“…This two-process integration has been designed interposing, between the reaction and purification stages, a salt formation and precipitation section (as in the “wet” ammonium bicarbonate process or in several later options for CO 2 –NH 3 absorption ) with a main washing tower discharging the oversaturated solution into a decanter. A first centrifuge separates the suspension; then, the ammonia still present is further precipitated blowing into the liquid an additional amount of carbon dioxide and separating through a second centrifuge.…”

“…The first variant, known as the chilled ammonia process (CAP), developed by ALSTOM, absorbs CO 2 at a low temperature in the range of (2–10°C). The low temperature minimizes the ammonia slip from the absorber, but facilitates the formation of a solid ammonium carbonate compound . The CAP was tested in a pilot plant at Wisconsin, USA, in 2008 for 15 000 tonne of CO 2 captured per year.…”

“…Most studies regarding this salt, on the other hand, investigate more generally the thermodynamics of the NH 3 –CO 2 –water mixture, showing that ammonium bicarbonate is the predominant solid species when the stoichiometric ratio between N and C is 1:1. , This system is of interest when ammonia is used as a CO 2 -capturing agent or when the salt itself is produced and marketed as a fertilizer alternative to urea. , …”
