Experimental Study on COD Composition and Electrochemical Degradation of Wastewater in Offshore Oilfields

Abstract: Chemical oxygen demand (COD) of standard discharge wastewater in offshore oilfields is an important part of oilfield wastewater treatment. Polymer-containing oily wastewater from oilfields in Bohai Sea was taken as the subject of this study. Combined with wastewater treatment experiments, the major composition of COD such as oils, polymer, and chemical agents is studied. Under certain conditions, the two-dimensional plug-flow electrochemical reactor was used to treat wastewater, and a linear relation between C… Show more

“…In addition to the photodegradation studies, chemical oxygen demand (COD) was studied separately to evaluate the mineralization tendency of indigo carmine. COD is an oxygen equivalent of the organic matter present in wastewaters . The analysis was performed with 10 mg of 10%GO–NT composite dispersed in 100 mL aqueous solutions of indigo carmine using the dichromate (K 2 Cr 2 O 7 ) method…”

“…COD is an oxygen equivalent of the organic matter present in wastewaters. [37] The analysis was performed with 10 mg of 10%GO-NT composite dispersed in 100 mL aqueous solutions of indigo carmine using the dichromate (K 2 Cr 2 O 7 ) method. [38] Aliquots of the dye under study were collected at time intervals of 15 min and precipitated.…”

“…The preparation of reagent E is relatively simple, need to add 2.5 g of silver sulfate to 250 mL of concentrated sulfuric acid and leave it for 1-2 days. After matching the relevant testing reagents, we used the laboratory's 5B-3A COD rapid tester (Shanghai Reunion Scientific Instrument Co., Ltd) to detect the COD of the four water samples (Yang et al 2017).…”

“…In the process of oil and gas field oil production, the produced water is of poor quality and complex composition [1]. It generally has high salt content, high COD value, large polymer content, and large oil content [2,3]. Some also contain small amounts of heavy metals and bacteria [4].…”
