Experimental study on histopathological changes and tissue tropism of Iranian infectious bronchitis serotype 793/B-like virus in SPF chickens

Abstract: Avian infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) is prevalent in all countries with intensive poultry flocks. This disease is characterised primarily by respiratory signs, but some IBV strains may also infect other organs such as the intestinal and urogenital tracts. The aim of this study was to characterise the histopathological lesions and tissue tropism of Iranian isolate IR/773/2001(793/B) of avian infectious bronchitis virus in different organs of experimentally infected SPF chickens. Forty-two one-day-old, specif… Show more

“…The first record of the 793/B serotype in Asia was in China in 2003; the virus isolate was named Taian-03, and the sequence of the S1 gene has been deposited in the GenBank database with the accession number AY837465. Currently, 793/B type viruses have been detected in several other Asian countries, including Japan (Mase et al, 2008), India (Sumi et al, 2012) and Iran (Bijanzed et al, 2013).…”

“…In Iran, several serotypes and genotypes of IBV have been reported from different regions; the first isolation of IBV in Iranian chicken flocks was reported in 1994. Later, several Iranian researchers identified the 793/B serotype, which turned out to be one of the most predominant types of IBV circulating in the country (6). Genotyping of IBV strains isolated in Iran were classified into seven distinct phylogenetic groups (Mass, /B like, IS/1494 like, IS/720-like, QX-like, IR-1, and IR-2) based on analysis of mainly HVRs of the S1 glycoprotein gene (7,8).…”
