Experimental Study on PCDD/Fs Adsorption onto Nano-Graphite

Abstract: The adsorption of the 17 toxic 2,3,7,8-substituted dioxin congeners onto graphite was investigated using a laboratoryscale fixed-bed adsorption system. First, the morphology and microstructure of graphite were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy and Brunauer-Emmer-Teller surface estimation. Removal efficiency of the 17 toxic PCDD/Fs varies from 89.31% to 99.96% and the amount adsorbed on graphite is a linear function of the inlet concentration of PCDD/Fs, as it was varied from 2.3-20.7 ng I-TEQ Nm -3… Show more

“…On this basis, it can be speculated that the catalytic mechanisms of these two catalysts are quite different. As for AC-O, CO 2 and CO were indeed detected during the reaction, showing catalytic properties of unsaturation carbon compounds, as reported previously [6].…”

“…Heating can then regenerate the resultant saturated carbon-based materials. However, it has been suggested [6] that when using carbon-based materials to remove dioxins, it does not occur simply via physical adsorption. In the regeneration process, the carbon-based material destroys the oxygen radicals within the benzene rings of dioxin, leading to its structural change.…”

“…PCDD/Fs are semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) that are toxic to human health and ecosystem (Cheruiyot et al, 2015(Cheruiyot et al, , 2016Li et al, 2016a). There are 210 possible congeners of PCDD/Fs, and of these only 17 with chlorine atoms attached to the 2, 3, 7 and 8 positions have been shown to especially toxic.…”

“…Such strong surge poses serious risks to both human health and the natural environment, given the considerable emissions of dust, and a host of organic and inorganic pollutants (Cheruiyot et al, 2016;Lee et al, 2016;Li et al, 2016a;Xu et al, 2018). During conventional cement production Thuong et al, 2014) polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) emerge at the level of 0.99 µg I-TEQ ton -1 clinker.…”
