Experimental Vapor Pressures of 2-Phenylethylamine, Benzylamine, Triethylamine, and cis-2,6-Dimethylpiperidine in the Range between 0.2 Pa and 75 kPa

Abstract: In this study, we reported experimental vapor pressures of several amines presenting different molecular structures, 2-phenylethylamine, benzylamine, triethylamine and cis-2,6-dimethylpiperidine, using a static apparatus. The pressure range is comprised between 0.2 Pa and 75 kPa, and the temperature range is between (273 and 365) K. From the temperature dependence of the vapor pressures, the molar enthalpies of vaporization at the mean temperature of the experimental range were derived from the Clausius−Clapey… Show more

“…However, even for power variations of ±15% the simulations predict values of η between 70% for Anti(out) and 95% for Gauche(out) (see Supplementary Material). The flux for a specific conformer behind the selection slits can be estimated using the vapor pressure of PEA at 410 K [68], the characteristics of a pulsed Even-Lavievalve [69,70], a 100 Hz laser illuminating an area of 1 mm 2 , and the diffraction pattern of the Gauche(out) conformer shown in Fig. 3a.…”

“…The particle flux j = nv = pv/k B T is determined by the partial pressure p of 2-phenylethylamine, the temperature T , and the velocity v of the molecules. Taking the velocity of an adiabatic expansion of Argon (v = 650 m/s) and the partial pressure of 2-phenylethylamine at T = 410 K [68], this yields a flux of j = 2.4 × 10 27 m −2 s −1 .…”

“…It also has been found in non-carnivorous species at much lower concentrations (Ferrero et al, 2011 ). Like pyrazines it is a moderately volatile compound (vapor pressure 35 Pa, Mokbel et al, 2009 ), therefore, probably not very effective over longer periods of time. In behavioral studies, rodents avoided a PEA odor source similarly as they avoided predator urines.…”
