Explicit dynamics simulation of Pecan fruit deformation under compressive loading—Part‐1: Determination of modulus of elasticity

Abstract: This study, which is divided into two parts, introduces an explicit dynamics simulation procedure for Pecan fruit (Carya illinoinensis) deformation under compressive loading. An original application algorithm based on experimental and theoretical methods has been described in the study. The major aim of this Part 1 is to determine the modulus of elasticity through various calculation approaches for Pecan fruit. In addition to this, some engineering properties of the Pecan fruit components were determined to de… Show more

“…The hexahedral sweep division was used to ensure the density of the model mesh, as shown in Figure 16 (Celik, 2017b;Celik, Caglayan, & Rennie, 2016;Logan, 2002). The contact between the blade and the garlic was set as a surface-to-surface erosion contact.…”

“…For instance, Liu, Guo, and Zhu (2020) studied the effects of moisture content, loading speed, and loading direction on the compression properties of walnuts through compression tests. Celik (2017) performed compression testing to measure the elastic modulus and other related mechanical properties of Carya cathayensis. Güner, Dursun, and Dursun (2003) experimentally determined various parameters such as rupture force required for hazelnut shell rupture under different conditions.…”
