This study aims to explore the frequency and effectiveness of summarization strategies used by Turkish EFL learners in both their L1 and L2 processes. Some 80 participants completed a self-report questionnaire and a summary writing task in both languages. Results revealed moderate use and effectiveness of summarization strategies in both processes, with positive correlations found between the use of certain strategies and summary criteria. These findings highlight the importance of teaching a variety of strategies to improve summarization performance in both L1 and L2 processes. The transferability of L1 summarization skills to L2 is also emphasized.

This research examines primary school students' self-efficacy levels in life studies course. The survey model was used to conduct the study. The research population consists of primary school 2nd and 3rd-grade students. The research sample is the 2nd and 3rd-grade students studying in the central districts of Diyarbakır. Stratified sampling was used in the study. Personal Information Form and Life Studies Course Self-efficacy (LSCS) Scale were used to collect data. The LSCS scale consists of two dimensions: authority-oriented self-efficacy and individual-oriented self-efficacy. T-tests for independent groups, one-way analysis of variance, and multiple regression analysis were utilized in the data analysis. The students' authority-oriented self-efficacy levels are higher than their individual-oriented self-efficacy levels, according to the findings. Life studies course self-efficacy does not differ significantly by gender variable in any dimension. In terms of mother's education level, father's education level, and father's occupation variables, both individual-oriented and authority-oriented self-efficacy differ significantly. While the variables of sense of success and frequency of studying can predict authority-oriented self-efficacy by 17 percent, they can only predict individual-oriented self-efficacy by 14 percent.

This study aims to compare pre-service Turkish and English teachers’ achievement levels, perceptions of self-efficacy and attitudes in relation to summarizing skills. This study adopted a sequential mixed method research design and there were 265 pre-service teachers who were chosen via convenience sampling. The data were obtained via a story summary rubric, the summarizing attitude scale, summarizing self-efficacy perception scale and a semi-structured interview form. While the quantitative data were analyzed by statistical methods, the qualitative data were subjected to summative content analysis. According to the findings, summarizing achievement level of the participants was at a good level. Also, it was found that the participants had a high level of belief in the importance of summarizing, they enjoyed summarizing at a moderate level, and their attitude scores towards summarizing were high. In addition, the participants' summary-based reading, summary writing and self-efficacy perceptions of summarizing were at a high level. On the other hand, it was revealed that there were no significant differences between the scores of the pre-service English and Turkish teachers in terms of summarizing achievement levels, believing in the importance of summarizing, reading for summarizing, writing summary and summarizing self-efficacy. Finally, there was a significant difference in favor of the pre-service Turkish teachers in the dimension of enjoying summarizing and the overall scores of the summarizing attitudes scale.
